North Carolina

Senate Candidates: At a Glance

Cal Cunningham’s views on abortion are extreme.  Most North Carolinians, whether pro-life or pro-choice, believe there should be reasonable restrictions on abortion to protect the health and safety of women and their unborn children, but Cal Cunningham doesn’t think there should be any limits at all. Cunningham’s candidacy has been endorsed by a radical pro-abortion group which supports abortion on demand up to the moment of birth paid for by taxpayers.

Thom Tillis

Current Senator for North Carolina
  • Voted to ensure equal medical care for infants born alive during a failed abortion attempt

  • Voted to protect unborn babies from late-term abortions after 20 weeks (more than halfway through pregnancy)

  • Voted against forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions

  • Supports judges who will respect the Constitution and interpret the law, not write the law

Senator Tillis is a strong defender of the right to life who has represented North Carolina in the Senate since 2015. In the U.S. Senate, he’s worked tirelessly to protect babies who survive failed abortions, end cruel late-term abortions after five months of pregnancy when science shows unborn children can feel pain, and stop taxpayer funding of abortion.

Serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Thom has led the charge to confirm President Trump’s judicial nominees. At a time when Democrats in Congress are doubling down on an extreme agenda of abortion on demand through birth and even infanticide, North Carolina needs Thom’s strong pro-life leadership in the Senate more than ever.

Senator Thom Tillis is a pro-life champion who has earned an “A” Rating from the Susan B. Anthony List Pro-Life Scorecard. Thom has voted consistently to protect the lives of unborn babies and infants as well as the consciences of taxpayers who don’t want their hard-earned tax dollars paying for abortion domestically or internationally.

Cal Cunningham

Pro-abortion Democrat opponent
  • Cunningham's backers believe abortion should be legal all the way through birth, even as a baby is being delivered

  • Cunningham’s backers oppose common sense limitations on abortion at 20 weeks (more than halfway through pregnancy) and beyond

  • Cunningham’s backers support forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions

  • Refused to commit to banning Partial-Birth Abortions

Cunningham’s candidacy has been endorsed by a radical pro-abortion group which supports abortion-on-demand, up to the moment of birth paid for by taxpayers:

  • Cunningham’s backers support late-term abortion. They oppose common sense limitations on abortion at 20 weeks (more than halfway through pregnancy) and beyond, even opposing protections for babies born alive after failed abortions.
  • Cunningham’s backers support Taxpayer-Funded Abortion which forces taxpayers to pay for painful late-term abortions
  • Responding to a 2000 Project Vote Smart Survey, Cunningham refused to support a ban on performing an abortion while the child is almost born but part of its body remains in the mother. The method was banned with the passage of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act signed into law in 2003. Despite this commonsense law, Cunningham’s backers believe abortion should be legal all the way through birth — including the now-illegal Partial-Birth Abortion method.
