Voted Against Protecting Babies Born Alive During Abortion

On February 25, 2019, Amy Klobuchar helped block a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.1 This bill would ensure babies who survive an abortion are given the same medical attention a baby born at the same age would receive. 77% of voters support such a law.2

Voted Against Protecting Babies after 5 Months of Pregnancy

In January 2018, Senator Klobuchar voted no on S.2311, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,3 a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks, a point by which science shows unborn children can feel pain.4 On two occasions in May 2019, Klobuchar refused to say she opposed late-term abortions at a point in pregnancy where children have been born and survived.56

Will Force Taxpayers to Pay for Abortions

Amy Klobuchar believes all Americans should be forced to fund abortions on-demand with their taxpayer dollars. On January 17, 2019 Klobuchar voted “no” on the Hyde Amendment,7 a restriction on abortion funding for Medicaid that is estimated to have saved more than 2 million lives from abortion.8

Klobuchar is not only in favor of repealing the Hyde Amendment, but she has also already cosponsored legislation which would overturn the amendment. She voted “no” on H.J. Res 43, to allow states the option to prioritize Title X funding away from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.9 She also voted “no” on the “American Health Care Act (H.R.1628) which included language similar to the Hyde amendment that ensured abortion could not be paid for or incentivized through the federal healthcare programs created under Obamacare.10
