In March the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List launched a $1 million statewide ad campaign and released new polling exposing Arizona’s U.S. Senator Mark Kelly’s pro-abortion extremism after the U.S. Senate voted Monday on H.R. 3755, the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act” better known as the “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act.” Backed by the Biden admin, the bill would establish a federal right to abortion on-demand all the way to the moment of birth and eliminate nearly all existing state limits on abortion. Senator Kelly is a co-sponsor of the legislation.

CatholicVote Civic Action contributed $100,000 towards the ad campaign, which will run on cable and broadcast television in the Phoenix and Tucson media markets over a two-week period.

Pro-Abortion Extremist

Mark Kelly’s views on abortion are extreme. Most Arizonans, whether pro-life or pro-choice, believe there should be reasonable restrictions on abortion to protect the health and safety of women and their unborn children, but Mark Kelly doesn’t think there should be any limits at all. Kelly has been endorsed by a radical pro-abortion group which supports abortion on-demand, up to the moment of birth paid for by taxpayers.

In August 2021, Senator Kelly voted against amendments supporting the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would limit late abortions past the point when science proves babies can feel pain, and the Protecting Individuals With Down Syndrome Act, which stops discriminatory abortions based on a diagnosis of Down syndrome.1

Refuses to Protect Born-Alive Abortion Survivors

Voted NO to equal medical care for living, breathing babies who have already been born.

In February 2021, Senator Kelly voted against an amendment in support of protections to ensure babies who are born alive after a failed abortion receive the same level of medical care any newborn infant would receive at the same stage of development.

A strong majority (77%) of Americans believe babies born alive during failed abortions should be protected under the law.

Wants to Force Taxpayers to Pay for Abortions

Kelly wants to use your tax dollars to fund abortion-on-demand. He voted twice (in March2 and August3 of 2021) against the Hyde Amendment, a restriction on abortion funding for Medicaid.

The Hyde Amendment is language that gets added to spending bills (a “rider”) in order to stop the use of taxpayer funds for abortion or for health insurance coverage that includes abortion – it protects Americans from being complicit in the brutality of abortion through their taxpayer dollars. The first Hyde Amendment applied to Medicaid, but additional amendments have since been offered to disentangle taxpayer funding for abortion from other federal funding streams.

In June 2021, Senator Mark Kelly signed on as a lead cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation that would expand abortion on demand and block states from stopping taxpayer funding of abortion. The bill would also prevent enforcement of existing pro-life laws or the passage of new laws at the state or federal levels.4

Thinks States Should Not be Allowed to Set Abortion Limits

Mark Kelly believes the Supreme Court — not the people of the states — should decide on where to draw the line

In September 2021, Kelly signed onto an amicus brief submitted in support of upholding Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs late abortion Supreme Court case.5

In January 2022, Kelly reasserted his support for the nearly 50-year-old Roe v. Wade ruling, stating, “For almost 50 years, Roe v. Wade has guaranteed abortion access — and that can’t change now. I’ve co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act because we need to codify reproductive rights into law.”6

Kelly’s goal of “codifying” Roe v. Wade into law would mean that states would be permanently restricted from passing even the most common sense limits on abortion that protect viable babies and protect mothers from harm.

Since Roe was decided in 1973, the Supreme Court has imposed legal abortion on-demand nationwide. The grip of this decision has blocked commonsense pro-life laws from going into effect. Supreme Court decisions such as Roe v. Wade imposed abortion on the American public, but has not resulted in settled abortion law.

Endorsed by Nation's Largest Abortion Business

In October 2019, Planned Parenthood endorsed Mark Kelly in his run for U.S. Senate representing Arizona. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in the U.S., ending the lives of more than 320,000 unborn children (approximately 1/3 of all abortion in the U.S.), and receiving more than $500 million tax dollars each year.

Kelly was also endorsed by NARAL,7 a pro-abortion lobby group that rejects even the most reasonable limits on abortion.
